Like many other writers these days, I like to have music playing when I write. I'm incredibly inspired by music—in fact, many of my books are inspired by a song. For example, THE DUFF wouldn't be in existence had I not heard the song "I Can't Stay Away" by the Veronicas. When I heard the song, the idea of writing a book called THE DUFF had only been a joke. I didn't have a plot or characters or anything. Then I bought the Hook Me Up CD by The Veronicas, and I heard the song.
Now I'm addicted.

Suddenly, pieces of the plot began to come together. I played the song over and over, trying to figure out the plot of this book. I knew I wanted an enemies-with-benefits relationship—a kind of twisted romance—but it still took a few weeks. But with the lyrics of "I Can't Stay Away" and the characters running around in my head, it wasn't long before I started writing the book that had once been a joke.
Now I make playlists for everything. Here's my complete playlist for THE DUFF. It has been altered and molded along the way as I find new songs or edited scenes.

I'll add playlists for my other books closer to their releases, but you'll see some of the same key players. Jack's Mannequin, Paramore, and The Veronicas always seem to run the show. LOVE these bands!
